Â
LAST TIME OUT
In its biggest test of the young season, Oregon withstood a furious comeback attempt by No. 12 Baylor, hanging on to defeat the Bears 76-74 Sunday night at Matthew Knight Arena.
Â
The Ducks led by 16 entering the fourth quarter, their largest lead of the game, only to see the lead evaporate after BU began the final frame on a 17-2 run. Down two with under 90 seconds remaining, Deja Kelly hit a tying layup and then set up Elisa Mevius for the go-ahead lay-in with 22 seconds left.
Â
Kelly led the Ducks with 20 points, her second straight 20-point effort, and nine rebounds to go with five assists and three steals.
Â
Alexis Whitfield added 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and went 4-for-4 in scoring nine points in the second quarter alone. The win marked UO's first against a ranked team since 2023, snapping a 14-game skid against top-25 opponents.
Â
SCOUTING NORTH TEXAS
North Texas makes its first road trip of the season, as the Mean Green come to Eugene having won its first two games of the season over Alcorn and Texas Southern.
Â
Desiree Wooten (18.0 PPG) leads four players on her team averaging double-digit points, followed closely Tommisha Lampkin (17.0), Kyla Deck (16.0) and Ereauna Hardaway (11.5). Lampkin was voted AAC Preseason Co-Player of the Year and has averaged a double-double this season, averaging a team-high 12.5 boards a game.
Â
The Mean Green retain eight letterwinners while bringing in six newcomers to a team that won the American Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 13-5 record, going 23-5 overall a season ago, and earning a bid into the WBIT.
Â
North Texas was tied for second in the American preseason coaches' poll, its highest preseason since being picked to finish No. 2 in the Sun Belt's West Division ahead of the 2006-07 season.

Â
OFF AND RUNNING
Oregon's new-look roster has shown its depth and talent just one week into the 2024-25 season, jumping out to a 3-0 start. The Ducks kickstarted their season with a 93-63 win over California Baptist last Monday, with the 93 points and 13 made 3-pointers being higher than any single-game total last season, while the 23 assists and five turnovers matched the single-game bests from 2023-24. With a 76-58 win over Nevada last Wednesday night and an upset of No. 12 Baylor on Sunday, the Ducks begin a season 3-0 for the 10th consecutive season.
Â
» Three newcomers have cracked UO's starting lineup in each of the first three games, in addition to guard Peyton Scott, who missed nearly all of last season due to injury, with four of the five being transfers.
» Twelve Ducks got into the scoring column against CBU, with four reaching double figures, and eight players tallied at least seven points.
» Eight newcomers combined for 52 points in the season-opening win, led by 14 points from Elisa Mevius.
» Scott, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in last year's season opener, paced the Ducks with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting (2-for-5 3PT) against the Lancers and added 12 points against Nevada.
» Senior guard Deja Kelly flirted with a triple-double with 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. The eight assists equaled her career high, which she has now done five times in her career.
» Kelly scored a game-high 21 points against Nevada, going 9-for-13 from the floor, and did not attempt a shot in the first quarter.
» Kelly followed that up with a 20-point, nine-rebound, five-assist performance against Baylor, where she hit the game-tying layup with less than 90 seconds left and set up Mevius for the game-winning lay-in with just 22 seconds left.
» It marked her 34th career 20-point outing, as she is the first Duck with back-to-back 20-point games since Te-Hina Paopao in 2023 (March 2 and 17).
