Birnbaum Earns Freshman of the Week

The Rapid City, S.D., native finished in 14th place at last weekend’s Cowboy Jamboree.
EUGENE, Ore. – On the heels of a top-15 finish in his season debut, Simeon Birnbaum has been named Big Ten Men's Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon. This is the program's first weekly award as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Birnbaum ran to a 14th-place finish at the Cowboy Jamboree (Sept. 28) in Stillwater, Okla. Donning the Oregon kit for the first time in a cross country race, he navigated the 8K course in a time of 24:10.9 to pace the Men of Oregon to a third-place team finish.
The Ducks' top five all finished inside the top 24 with Benjamin Balazs crossing in 17th to join Birnbaum in the top 20.
Oregon returns to action in two weeks to host the Bill Dellinger Invitational on Friday, Oct. 11, at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Ore. The men's 8K is set for 11:15 a.m. followed by the women's 6,000-meter race at 12 p.m.
