04/06/23 | Track and Field
Day two of the Brutus Hamilton Multis begins Friday at 11 a.m.
BERKELEY, Calif. – After day one of the Brutus Hamilton Multis, Colleen Uzoekwe and Gianna Bullock sit 1-2 in the heptathlon, respectively, while Nathan Poff leads the decathlon. Competition resumes Friday at 11 a.m. (PT) with the 110-meter hurdles for Poff and Arthur Katahdin, currently fourth. The long jump in the heptathlon—the first of three events on day two—will start at 12:30 p.m.
Uzoekwe recorded three outdoor bests Thursday with her efforts in the 100-meter hurdles (14.33), high jump (1.70m/5-7) and 200 meters (24.40). She added a measure of 14.26m/46-9.5 in the shot put on the way to a day-one score of 3,541 points. The Portland native posted the top mark in three of four events, finishing only behind Bullock in the hurdles.
Bullock got her day started with a lifetime best of 14.24 in the 100-meter hurdles, taking down her old PB of 14.51 from last year's Aztec Invitational. She registered a second personal best in the shot put at 12.96m/42-6.25 before closing out the day with a season best of 25.54 in the 200 meters. Bullock takes a total of 3,220 points into Friday.
The second day of the heptathlon features the long jump, javelin and 800 meters.
In the first event of the day, Poff stopped the clock in 11.09 in the 100 meters to tie his lifetime best first set at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. He followed that with a mark of 6.67m/21-10.75 in the long jump for a season-best measure. Poff went on to have the top scores in the shot put and 400 to finish day one with 3,672 points.
Katahdin, competing in just the second decathlon of his career, had lifetime-best marks in the shot put (12.44m/40-9.75) and 400 meters (50.10). He will go into day two with 3,496 points.
Poff holds a 26-point lead over Cole Whatley of Cal heading into the final five events of the decathlon: 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500 meters.
