03/08/23 | Softball
No. 21/19 Oregon opens Pac-12 play by visiting No. 10/11 Washington Friday through Sunday. All three games will be on Pac-12 Network. The Ducks will stay in Seattle to play at Seattle U. on Monday (3 p.m.).
HANSEN LEADS NCAA IN WINS
Stevie Hansen enters the week tied for the NCAA lead in victories with 11. After dropping her first two decisions, she has won 11 in a row. During that streak, Hansen has a 0.75 ERA with 58 Ks and 7 BB in 56.1 innings. She has allowed just 6 earned runs during that span with a .162 opponent batting average. Among her wins were three straight against then-No. 19 Northwestern, No. 3 Florida and No. 24 Missouri.
BUNKER REACHES TOP 5 IN CAREER HITS
Allee Bunker moved into the top four in UO career hits last week at the Judi Garman Classic. With 241 hits, she's six behind Nikki Udria - now UO assistant coach Nikki Ragin - (2014-17) for third with 247.
DUCKS IN THE POLLS
Oregon currently sits at No. 21 in the NFCA Coaches' Poll and No. 19 in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll. It is Oregon's 44th consecutive appearance in the polls, dating back to the 2020 preseason poll.
NONCONFERENCE SUCCESS UNDER LOMBARDI
Under head coach Melyssa Lombardi, Oregon has posted some of the best non-conference records in program history. Three years ago in 2020, before the season was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ducks were 22-2 through 24 games. That was at the time, the second-best 24-game record in program history. In 2021, the Ducks did that one better, going 23-1 through 24 games. Last season, the Ducks went 19-3 prior to the opening of conference play. Overall, Oregon is 97-18 in nonconference regular season games under Lombardi.
RESERVED SEASON TICKETS SELL OUT
Oregon sold out of reserved season tickets for the 2023 season on Jan. 17 - a full two months prior to the March 17 home opener with Stanford. Single-game reserved tickets have already sold out for the Ducks' games versus UCLA on March 25-26 and only 3 reserved tickets remain for the series opener on March 24. A fourth game nearing a reserved section sell out is Stanford on March 18; just 3 reserved seats are still on sale. Fewer than 100 reserved tickets remain for Oregon's games against Stanford (March 17, 19), Montana (April 3), Lindenwood (April 7), Portland State DH (April 18), Arizona (April 21-22-23) and Utah (May 6-7). General admission season and single-game tickets for all games remain on sale (www.goducks.com).
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE
The Ducks are currently 2-1 vs. 2022 WCWS teams, and 8-3 against teams that made the NCAA Tournament last year. Last season, Oregon played the second-most difficult schedule in the nation. In 2023, the Ducks will play six of the eight teams that reached the 2022 Women's College World Series – Florida, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Oregon State and UCLA. In all, Oregon has 29 games against teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. In addition to the six WCWS teams, the Ducks' 2023 opponents who played in the 2022 NCAA Tournament are Wisconsin, Ole Miss, LMU, San Diego State, Fullerton, Missouri, Minnesota, Arizona State, Washington and Stanford.
