Winning Streak Snapped at San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Oregon men's tennis team lost its weekend finale Saturday, a 4-0 setback to San Diego. The loss snaps the Ducks' six-match winning streak and drops their record to 9-3 through the first 12 matches of the season. Originally slated for a 10 a.m. start, the match was delayed three hours with rain in the area.
Oregon leaves San Diego with a weekend split having tallied a 5-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Friday.
How It Happened: During the doubles point, San Diego (4-3) took the early advantage with a 6-3 win on court two, and the No. 1 and 3 spots were tied at 5-all. The home team secured the opening point of the match with 7-5 victory on court three.
The top-35 matchup at No. 1 doubles went unfinished. The UO pair of Ty Gentry and Joshua Charlton entered the match ranked No. 11 in the country. They were facing the No. 31 duo in USD's Nico Borter and Gui Osorio.
After a hard-fought doubles point, the Toreros swept through the top of the lineup to post the 4-0 team victory. Osorio, the No. 62 singles player in the country, sealed the USD win with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court two. Charlton suffered just his second dual loss of the year, dropping a straight-set decision to No. 102 August Holmgren at the top spot.
Junior Riki Oshima was up a set in his match at No. 4 singles and led Borter 6-3, 3-5 when the team dual ended. Luke Vandecasteele and Brandon Lam had just begun their matches on courts five and six.
