Road Trip to San Diego For Two Matches

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon men's tennis team continues its non-conference slate with two matches in San Diego, beginning Friday with a neutral-site matchup with Loyola Marymount. The Ducks (8-2) enter the weekend riding a five-match winning streak. Oregon will also face host San Diego on Saturday.

Last Time Out
The Ducks registered a 6-1 victory over Nebraska (Feb. 16) at the UO Student Tennis Center. After taking the doubles point, Oregon secured the team win with straight-set decisions at No. 1, 2 and 5 singles with sophomore Joshua Charlton clinching the victory at the top spot. With play continuing, the Ducks picked up two more points with wins by Ty Gentry and Riki Oshima on courts three and four, respectively.
Rankings Update
In the Feb. 18 release of the Oracle/ITA Division I national rankings, sophomore Joshua Charlton moved up 10 spots to No. 19 in the singles poll. Charlton is 18-5 this season with an 8-1 mark during dual play. He and senior Ty Gentry are the No. 11 doubles team in the nation, and remain the top-ranked doubles pair in the Pac-12. Charlton and Gentry are 13-3 this season.
Classroom Standouts
Junior Emmanuel Coste and Riki Oshima have earned spots on the UO Dean's List for the 2019 fall term. To qualify, a student must be an admitted undergraduate and complete at least 15 credits for the term with a GPA of at least 3.75, and at least 12 of the credits must be taken for letter grades. On the court, Coste is 8-4 this season while Oshima had posted a 10-3 mark.
About Loyola Marymount
Loyola Marymount is 3-2 through its first five matches of the dual season. The Lions are coming off a 4-3 setback to Cal Poly (Feb. 15). Sophomore Keenan Mayo has split four matches in the No. 1 singles spot in the lineup. The Lions' duo of Diego Nava and Thin Nguyen are 3-1 in the top spot of the doubles lineup. Oregon tallied a 6-1 win over LMU last year in Eugene.
About San Diego
San Diego (3-3) are looking to snap a two-match skid after consecutive losses to then-No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 25 Oklahoma. The USD lineup features No. 62 Gui Osorio and No. 102 August Holmgreen, and the No. 31 doubles team of Osorio and Nico Borter. San Diego is the six-time defending champion in the West Coast Conference. Oregon beat the Toreros, 4-3, last season in Eugene.
Career Movement
With wins against Santa Clara (Feb. 1) and Drake (Feb. 2), senior Ty Gentry pushed his career total to 68 doubles victories. That figure moves him into a tie for seventh place with Jayson Amos (2013-17) on the UO career list. Gentry is 68-29 (.701) in doubles play during his UO career.
