Ducks Host Season-Opening Doubleheader

EUGENE, Ore. – After a successful fall season, the Oregon men's tennis team opens its dual campaign Saturday with matches against Eastern Washington and Portland State. Play begins at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center on the UO campus. Admission is free.
The Ducks are coming off a 13-10 season in 2019 and welcome back four players—senior Ty Gentry (16), juniors Emmanuel Coste (17) and Riki Oshima (20), and sophomore Joshua Charlton (20)—that each had at least 15 wins last year.

Top-15 National Rankings
On the strength of a productive fall slate, the UO doubles team of Charlton and Gentry begin the dual season as the No. 8 pair in the country. Charlton and Gentry posted a 7-2 record in the fall with a run to the ITA Northwest Regional doubles title. Individually, Charlton checks in at No. 14 after a 10-4 mark during the tournament season. He won five of seven matches at the ITA All-American with three victories over ranked opponents.
Approaching a Milestone
Head coach Nils Schyllander is currently in his 14th season at the helm of the men's program at Oregon. In that time, he has a 187-133 (.584) record with four NCAA Tournament appearances. Overall, he has spent 17 years at Oregon having additionally served as the women's head coach from 2002-2006 when he posted a 58-41 (.586) mark. Schyllander enters the 2020 campaign five shy of 250 career victories.
Career Movement
With seven doubles wins during the fall season, Gentry pushed his career total to 62 which ranks 10th in UO program history. He enters the season opener with a 62-28 (.689) record in doubles play. Dating back to last year, Gentry and Charlton own a 20-8 (.714) record as a duo.

The Newcomers
Fans will notice a handful of newcomers for the Ducks with the additions of junior transfer Brandon Lam and the freshmen trio of Jesper Klöv-Nilsson, Gio Soemarno and Luke Vandecasteele. Lam spent the first two years of his collegiate career at Indiana. In October, he won the 'B' flight at the UCSB Classic.
