Ducks Drop Finale to No. 7 Washington

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon softball team dropped its series finale against No. 7 Washington, 8-0, on Monday night at Jane Sanders Stadium.
How it Happened: Washington (25-6, 3-3 Pac-12) mounted a big two-out rally in the second inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead as free passes came back to hurt UO starter Jordan Dail. The Huskies loaded the bases with two outs on a single and a pair of walks, and then scored two on a walk and a hit-by-pitch. UW struck for four more on a pair of two-run singles before Maddie MacGrandle retired the first batter she faced in relief to end the inning.
The Huskies added another run in the third on a solo homer, and took advantage of an Oregon error in the fourth to push a run across and move into run-rule territory at 8-0.
The Ducks (11-16, 0-6 Pac-12) had a couple scoring opportunities early on against UW starter Taran Alvelo, but were unable to cash in. Cherish Burks and Shaye Bowden both singled in the first inning to put runners on the corners with one out, but Alvelo got the next two batters in order to end the threat. Jasmine Sievers opened the second inning with a hard-hit double down the left-field line, but she was stranded at third and was the final baserunner of the night against the UW senior as the Huskies took the game and swept the series.
At the Plate: Burks, Bowden and Sievers accounted for Oregon's three hits, with Sievers picking up her fifth double of the year.
In the Circle: Dail (9-8) allowed six runs with three walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. MacGrandle pitched fairly effectively over 3.1 innings of relief, allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
Up Next: Oregon will hit the road for a Wednesday night game at Pacific before beginning a weekend series at Stanford on Friday.
