Ducks Sweep Through Singles in 6-1 Win

EUGENE, Ore. – After dropping the doubles point, the University of Oregon men's tennis team swept its way through singles play to register a 6-1 win Sunday afternoon over Loyola Marymount. The win moves the Ducks to 9-1 this season including an 8-0 record at home. Sunday's showing marked the end of a six-match home stand.
Up Next: Oregon hits the road next weekend for matches at Drake (Feb. 22) and Wisconsin (Feb. 24). The next home match is March 7 when the Ducks host Middle Tennessee.
For the first time since their match against San Diego (Feb. 1), the Ducks dropped the doubles point and faced a deficit heading into the singles play. Oregon's lone win during doubles play came from the new duo of Riki Oshima and Charles Roberts, a 6-2 victor at the No. 3 spot in the lineup.
Thomas Laurent and Ty Gentry were the first Ducks off the court with straight-set wins at the No. 1 and 3 spots, respectively. Laurent won 11 of the last 12 games of his match on his way to a 6-3, 6-0 victory. On court three, Gentry won 6-2, 6-2 to extend his winning streak to 10 in a row.
Oregon's next point came from Emmanuel Coste and his 6-3, 6-1 win on court two. He and Laurent are tied for the team lead with 16 wins in singles play this season.
Roberts racked up his second win of the day to clinch the match for the Ducks. He posted a 6-4, 6-2 win on court six. Joshua Charlton—a winner of eight straight—followed quickly thereafter with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court five.
Play continued which allowed Oshima to pick up a three-set win in the No. 4 spot in the lineup. He won the second set to force a decisive 10-point breaker in the third. Oshima jumped out to an early lead and came away with a 6-7(5), 6-3, 1-0(5) triumph.
