04/09/17 | Men's Golf
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – With three holes left to complete the second round, the Oregon men's golf team is fourth at the 71st Annual Western Intercollegiate at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
The Ducks tallied a first round of 353 and are currently 9-over through the majority of the second round. Play was halted Saturday morning from 9:42 to 10:26 a.m. due to rain, and was halted again at 7:45 p.m. due to darkness.
Action will resume at 8:00 a.m. PT on Sunday and will play continuously through the third and final round.
After the first day, USC leads with an 8-under 347, while Stanford follows in second at even par. Washington (355, +6), Oregon (353, +9) and Arizona State (357, +13) round out the top five.
Justin Suh of USC is first overall with a first round of 68 and is currently 5-under. Isaiah Salinda of Stanford is second at 4-under, while Maverick McNealy (Stanford) and Alex Del Rey Gonzalez (Arizona State) are tied for third.
Sophomore Edwin Yi finished highest for the Ducks after the first day tied for sixth with a season best opening round of 67. He is tied for sixth with Charles Corner (Texas El Paso, 72, -1) and Frank Garber (Washington, 70, -1), and currently 1-under with the three holes to finish the second round.

How it Happened: In the six up, five count structure, redshirt senior Nigel Lett – who has been seeing more time as an individual this season – emerged as an early tournament leader with two birdies right out the gate to tie for second. Freshman Norman Xiong also was within the top 20, tied at 18 with one birdie, a bogey and four even par through the beginning six holes.
Through the front nine, the Ducks skyrocketed up to first overall at 4-under, thanks to an Eagle by redshirt senior Wyndham Clark on the ninth hole, while the rest of the Ducks carded at least one birdie through the 7-9 holes. Yi had back-to-back birdies on holes 7 and 8, while redshirt sophomore Ryan Gronlund was good for one on the hole 7 and 9.
Through 12-14 holes, the Ducks slipped to third as Stanford and USC were 4 and 1-under, respectively, as a triple bogey by Lett and bogeys by Xiong, Gronlund and freshman Kevin Geniza set them back in the 10th hole.
To finish out the day with three holes remaining in the second round, Oregon finished at 9-over with a first round total of 353.
