Ducks Come Away With Split in Boise

OREGON DEFEATED SACRAMENTO STATE, 3-2, BEFORE DROPPING A 3-2 DECISION TO BOISE STATE ON FRIDAY IN BOISE, IDAHO
BOISE, Idaho - The Oregon beach volleyball team beat Sacramento State, 3-2, for its first win of the season on Friday afternoon before dropping a 3-2 decision to Boise State at the Boise State Sand Volleyball Complex.
Oregon 3, Sacramento State 2: The Ducks (1-3) pulled out their first win of the 2017 beach season with wins on courts one, three and five. At No. 5, Ronika Stone and Maggie Scott teamed up for a three-set win, taking down Brigitte Murdock and Courtney Dietrich, 21-11, 11-21, 15-5.
Willow Johnson and Maddy Silberger-Franek came away with a victory at the No. 3 spot with a straight-set win over Kennedy Kurtz and Sarah Davis, 21-16, 2-15. A win at the top court by Lindsey Vander Weide and Brooke Van Sickle helped to clinch the victory for the Ducks, as the duo took down Madeline Cannon and Morgan Stanley in three sets, 17-21, 21-15, 15-9.
Sacramento State earned its points with wins on courts two and four. Lexie Skalbeck and Brie Gathright edged the Ducks' Taylor Agost and August Raskie, 21-12, 24-22, at No. 2, and Lana Brown and Hannah Meadows teamed up on No. 4 to defeat Oregon's Lauren Page and Marine Hall-Poirier, 21-18, 21-13.
Boise State 3, Oregon 2: In their second match of the day against the host Broncos, the Ducks came away with a pair of victories but were unable to come away with their second match win of the day.
Oregon received wins on courts four and five to put its two points on the scoreboard. At No. 5, Scott and Stone completed a 2-0 day with a 21-17, 21-19 win over Boise State's Jensen Allen and Cassedi Simon. Page and Hall-Poirier bounced back from their loss earlier in the day to defeat the Broncos' Jaymee Bulda and Laney Hayes in a back-and-forth match, 10-21, 21-18, 21-17, at No. 4.
The Broncos pulled out a win at the top court to help fuel their 3-2 win, as Maddy O'Donnell and Maddi Osburn outlasted Vander Weide and Van Sickle in three sets, 17-21, 21-17, 15-13. Boise State's Janell Walley and Emily Sullivan defeated Agost and Raskie at No. 2, 21-17, 21-12, and Sierra Nobley and Sabryn Roberts took down Johnson and Silberger-Franek on the third court, 21-14, 21-17.
What it Means: After starting 0-2 with two matches in March, the Ducks opened a busy April with a split in Boise and got a win over Sacramento State, whom they'll play in their next match.
Up Next: The Ducks will play Sacramento State in Sacramento, Calif., next Thursday to kick off a stretch of six matches in three days before the Pac-12 Tournament on April 27 in Stanford, Calif.
