Bears Edge Out Ducks for Win in Waco

WACO, Texas – The Oregon women's tennis team fell just short to the Baylor Bears on Saturday afternoon at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center, 4-3. The Ducks are now 3-3 on the season.
How it Happened: In doubles, the Ducks came out with the early lead to claim the doubles point with two victories and forcing the third match to go unfinished. Senior Marlou Kluiving and freshman Julia Eshet finished first – defeating Angie Shakhraichuk and Jessica Hinojosa, 6-2. Junior Nia Rose and Daniela Nasser solidified the victory with a 6-4 finish. With the match at 5-3, sophomore Shweta Sangwan and Alyssa Tobita were provided a gritty effort to the No. 15 ranked Blair Shankle and Elizabeth Profit.
In singles, Nasser kept the Ducks momentum going with a two-set win over Traxler, 6-1, 6-4. Kluiving, who finished her match second, was also was victorious with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Shakhraichuk. All was in the Ducks' favor, but No. 7 Shankle defeated Sangwan in three sets – winning 6-0 in the first set, falling 2-6 in the second, 6-1 in the third. The tables officially turned over to the advantage of Baylor, as No. 117 Hinojosa took down Eshet 7-6, 6-1 and Newborn took Tobita into three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The day came down to the final singles match between Van Zyl and Rose, with the eventual game going to Baylor, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
Noteables: Kluiving and Eshet are the Ducks' most winningest pair in doubles this year and now have a record of 14-3 overall. Kluiving is also the top singles player at 11-2 overall. The Bears own the all-time series record against the Ducks at 3-0.
