Thomas Laurent and Cormac Clissold look to make their mark in the ITA Fall National Championships beginning Wednesday in southern California.
EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Cormac Clissold and junior Thomas Laurent of the Oregon men's tennis team will put their skills to the test against some of the top players from around the country at the inaugural ITA Fall Nationals Nov. 1-5 in southern California.
Tournament central here.
The 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships is the only intercollegiate event to feature competitors from all five divisions competing for a national championship.
Laurent, who will represent the Ducks in singles and doubles play, qualified for the singles tournament after his semi-final appearance in the ITA All-American Championships.
The French international cracked UO's career singles victories list following his quarterfinal win at the All-Americans boasting a 53-14 career record placing him 15th all-time. He'll enter the singles bracket as the No. 16 overall seed taking on Kentucky's William Bushamuka, at 12:15 p.m. PT, who ranks ninth in the country.
The duo of Clissold and Laurent earned their spot in the doubles bracket with the program's first-ever ITA Northwest Regional doubles championship. The pair defeated the 39th-ranked team of Billy Griffith and JT Nishimura from California, 6-2, 7-6(7), for the tournament berth.
As a team, Clissold and Laurent are 44-7 all-time and are currently second on Oregon's career doubles victories list.
They will be put to the test in the opening round facing the No. 2 overall pair of Will Little and Johannes Schretter from Baylor at 3:45 p.m. PT.
Looking Ahead: Laurent and Clissold close out their fall season at the ITA Fall Nationals, while the rest of the men's tennis team heads to the Minnesota Gopher Invitational Friday (Nov. 3).
