TOURNAMENT HISTORY
This is the second time the Ducks have participated in the San Diego State tournament at The Farms Golf Course. The last time UO competed was in 2014 when it finished 14th.
The format was changed to match play in 2015 so this year will mark the first time Oregon has competed in the tournament in its current format.
LAST TIME OUT
The Ducks headed to Gainsville, Fla. to participate in the SunTrust Gator Invitational March 5-6. Oregon shot 291-289-297 -- 877 to finish at 37 over for the event and place fourth.
On Sunday, Cathleen Santoso (73-76-73-222) fired the Ducks' low round of the day, carding a 3-over 73. The junior from Sydney, Australia used a birdie on her final hole - the par 5 No. 3 hole - to tie teammate Caroline Inglis (74-74-74-222) for 21st among individuals.
Freshman Kathleen Scavo (71-73-75-219) had Oregon's top overall finish, tying for 14th, followed by fellow frosh Petra Salko (73-72-75-220), who tied for 16th.
Marcella Pranovia (74-70-80-224) couldn't sustain momentum from her team-best, even-par 70 in Round 2 and placed tied for 28th. Pranovia was just 2-over at the turn on Sunday, but ran into trouble with a stretch of four holes that cost her six strokes against par.
The Ducks posted a top four finish for the third time in as many spring tournaments, and Oregon was the only team in the field that saw all five of its golfers place among the top 30 individuals. Emphasizing the difficulty of the course, North Carolina State's Rachael Taylor took home medalist honors with a 54-hole score of even par.
HAMILTON JOINS DUCKS
The Ducks have added another standout to the roster as freshman Brooke Hamilton arrived on campus last week and will travel with the team to Rancho Santa Fe. Hamilton is a native of Auckland, New Zealand and attended St. Cuthbert's College before coming to Eugene.
She has won numerous New Zealand Order of Merit Tournaments including: the South Island Women's Stroke Play, the South Island U19 Stroke Play, the North Island U19 Stroke Play, and the Lochiel Women's Open. Hamilton was selected for the New Zealand Development squad and competed in the Junior World Golf Team Championships in Japan. She has also participated in a number of junior tournaments in the United States.
She is a three-time participant at the Junior World Golf Championships and tied for 17th in 2015. She also qualified for the 2015 U.S. Girls' Junior Championship, held in Tulsa, and won the 114th PNGA women's amateur held in Idaho in 2015.
