Homestand Continues with Western Oregon
11/29/16 | Men's Basketball
Oregon continues its nine-game homestand by hosting Western Oregon at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (Pac-12 Networks).
THE STARTING FIVE
1 - Oregon has held six straight opponents under 70 points, and has held opponents below 40 percent shooting from the field in five-of-seven games in 2016-17. Army (77) in the season opener is the only team to reach 70 points against the Ducks so far this season.
2 - The Ducks rank second nationally at 8.3 blocks per game, and lead the nation in total blocks with 58. Individually, Chris Boucher is ninth nationally in blocks per game (3.3), with Jordan Bell 20th (2.9 bpg).
3 - The top two career blocked shots leaders in Oregon history are on the Ducks' 2016-17 roster. Junior Jordan Bell became UO's all-time leader in just his 50th career game and now shows 167. Last Monday against Georgetown, Chris Boucher passed Blair Rasmussen (116/1981-85) for second on the UO career list and now shows 133. Boucher has blocked five shots in three of the last four games.
4 - Dillon Brooks returned to the Oregon lineup in Maui after missing the first three games of the season, and has entered the UO top 30 in career scoring. He comes into Wednesday's game with 1,087 career points, which is tied for 29th with Nick Jones (1,087/1964-67) and three back of Charlie Franklin (1,090/1955-58).
5 - Oregon's recently announced 2017 signing class of Victor Bailey Jr., Troy Brown Jr., and Agu Kigab was rated No. 8 nationally by ESPN.
LAST YEAR VS. WESTERN OREGON
Oregon finished off its 2014-15 non-conference slate by defeating Western Oregon 88-60 on Dec. 30. Tyler Dorsey led the way for the Ducks, tallying a career-high 25 points. Oregon wasted no time grabbing control, rattling off a 14-2 run to open the game, led by a quick seven points from Dorsey in the opening minutes. The Ducks hit seven of their first eight shots, while forcing misses on six of Western Oregon's first eight attempts. The Ducks scored 11 unanswered to build a 32-13 advantage with 8:56 left in the first half. Refusing to be tamed, the Wolves outscored Oregon 23-8 through the remainder of the period, cutting the Duck lead to as few as three. Oregon would hold on to lead 40-36 at the break. After Western Oregon scored the first four points of the second half to tie the game at 40, Oregon rattled off a 20-5 run led by 11 points from Elgin Cook, to regain the lead. The Ducks never looked back, inflating their lead to as large as 31 and ending the game on a 20-5 run. Oregon outscored the Wolves 48-24 in the second half.
