Eshet Wins Singles Crown, Eshet/Kluving Top Doubles

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Oregon women's tennis team claimed the top three doubles spots and freshman Julia Eshet finished first overall in singles after the final day of competition at the Gonzaga Invitational.
Along with her top finish in singles play, Eshet and senior Marlou Kluiving claimed the tournament doubles' crown.
Junior Alyssa Tobita and sophomore Shweta Sangwan finished second overall in doubles.
Sophomore Daniela Nasser claimed third in doubles with junior Nia Rose and finished third overall in singles.
With the close of the tournament, the Ducks finish with a final overall record of 21-6 (7-2 doubles, 14-4 singles).
How It Happened: On the day, the Ducks went 6-3 overall with a 1-2 finish in doubles play and 5-1 record in singles.
On the first two days of the tournament, the Ducks displayed their power pair dynamics and were undefeated in doubles.
Today, Kluiving and Eshet bested Apollo/Rosas (Gonzaga), 6-1. The Gonzaga pairings of Whittle/Ketels and Garley/Tsuruta defeated Ducks Tobita/Sangwan (6-4) and Rose/Nasser (7-6(4)), respectively.
In singles, Tobita won over Jelena Lazarevic (Portland) in two sets, 6-1, 6-4. Sangwan took the win over Tatiana Grigoryan (Portland) in three sets, 7-6(4),3-6,6-2. Kluiving defeated Emily Soares (Portland) 6-1,6-3. In two sets, 6-2,6-2, Eshet bested Anna Oberg (Portand) and Nasser won 6-0,6-0, over Kara Okasaki (Portland). Radina Dimitrova (Portland) defeated Rose in two sets, 6-1,6-3.
What It Means: The Ducks won all but two doubles match-ups over the weekend for an overall record of 7-2.
The Ducks swept the top three spots of the weekend. Eshet/Kluiving won 19 games overall (lost 10, +9 game differential), qualifying them for the first place finish. Tobita/Sangwan took second place with 16 wins (10 losses, +6 game differential) and Rose/Nasser won 19 matches (lost 13, +6 game differential), good for third place.
In singles, the Ducks finished 14-4 on the weekend and claimed first, third and fifth final rankings.
Eshet was the top singles player of the tournament with 40 total wins (17 losses) and a +23 game differential. Nasser finished third overall with 38 total wins (17 losses, +21 game differential) and Sangwan rounded out the top five with 44 total wins (29 losses, +15 game differential).

Looking Ahead: With the conclusion of the Gonzaga Invitational, the Ducks have closed the fall season. Oregon will open the regular-season on January 13 against the Portland Pilots in Eugene at the Student Tennis Center.
