Ducks Continue Perfection in Doubles

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Oregon women's tennis team went 8-1 overall after the second day of the Gonzaga Invitational.
The Ducks swept doubles play, 3-0, to stay perfect for the third straight tournament on the second day of competition. In singles, Oregon went 5-1.
How It Happened: On Saturday, Oregon went head-to-head with Portland in doubles and Idaho in singles.
The Duck duo of junior Alyssa Tobita and sophomore Shweta Sangwan defeated Dimitrova/Oberg, 6-2.
With a final of 6-3, senior Marlou Kluiving and freshman Julia Eshet bested Grigoryan/Soares.
Junior Nia Rose and sophomore Daniela Nasser won 7-6(3) over Lazarevic/Okasati.
In singles play, Ducks Rose and Kluiving won in three sets over Lucia Badillos (7-5,2-6,6-3) and Maria Tavares (1-6,6-2,6-7), respectively. Three Ducks, Sangwan, Eshet and Nasser all won in two sets. Sangwan defeated Ana Batiri, 6-3,6-1. With a final of 6-0,6-4, Eshet took down Claire Yang and Nasser bested Katie Day (Gonzaga), 6-4, 6-1. Tobita was defeated by Marianna Petrei, 7-5,6-2.
What It Means: This is the third straight tournament in which the Ducks went undefeated in the second day of doubles match-ups.
Looking Ahead: The Ducks will conclude play at the Gonzaga Invitational tomorrow, with singles play at 9:00 a.m. and doubles beginning at 12:30 p.m.
