LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Oregon dropped its first road test of the season on Friday, falling, 80-69, to UNLV at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
After trailing by as many as 20 points, the Ducks closed to 59-54 before UNLV's Ben Carter made two free throws, Stephen Zimmerman connected on a jump shot and Patrick McCaw made a layup to restore UNLV's double-digit lead.
Oregon senior Dwayne Benjamin scored 18 of his 21 points in second half to lead the near comeback.
UNLV's Jerome Seagers added 16 points. McCaw had 14 points for UNLV, and Zimmerman had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Carter scored 10 points.
Zimmerman picked an ideal time for his first field goal of the second half, helping the Rebels end a near-10 minute drought from the floor.
The Rebels controlled the tempo from the opening tip, burying three straight 3-pointers to open a 9-2 lead. UNLV used runs of 13-5, 10-0 and 7-0 to hold off the Ducks throughout the first half.
