SEATTLE, Wash. – Newcomers Kennan Johnson and Daniela Nasser tallied singles victories as the Oregon women's tennis team opened play at the Washington Invitational on Friday.
How It Happened: Friday's competition at the Washington Invitational opened with two rounds of doubles where Oregon was matched up with doubles teams from Kentucky and Washington.
Fielding three tandems, the Ducks took on Kentucky in the first round. Oregon's Alyssa Tobita and Shweta Sangwan were defeated by the nation's ninth-ranked doubles team in Kentucky's Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi, 6-4, before Ducks Marlou Kluiving and Kennan Johnson fell, 6-4, to Kirsten Lewis and Morgan Chumney. Kentucky completed the sweep over the Ducks when Justina Mikulskyte and Akvile Parazinskaite knocked off Daniela Nasser and Micheline Aubuchon, 6-1.
The Ducks' struggles in doubles continued against Washington with all three doubles teams dropping their matches in the second round as well.
In singles, sophomore transfer Kennan Johnson tallied a big win, defeating No. 65 Jean Runglerdkriangkrai of Pepperdine in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.
Nasser continued her momentum from her consolation victory at the WSU Invitational by downing Pepperdine's Danielle Feneridis, 6-4, 6-2, to win her third-straight match.

What It Means: Although the Ducks struggled to find a rhythm in doubles play on Friday, the team will have two more days of action in Seattle to get back on track. Oregon was solid overall in doubles at the WSU Invitational, winning 14 of the team's first 18 matches before a tough, 0-4 day on the tournament's final day. The Ducks will look to find that same consistency throughout the lineup from a week ago and translate that into their remaining matches.
In singles, newcomers Johnson and Nasser looked strong in their second tournament as Ducks. Since the start of the fall season, Oregon newcomers have posted a combined 12 wins in tournament action.
