
Women's Hoops Falls in its Pac-12 Opener at USC

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball team opened Pac-12 play on Saturday at USC, falling 70-54 to the Women of Troy at the Galen Center.
The Ducks cut a 19-point first half deficit to just six points midway through the second but could not complete the comeback. Oregon slides to 7-5 (0-1 Pac-12) with the loss.
How It Happened: The Ducks dug themselves an early hole against USC and just couldn't recover.
Oregon trailed 23-6 with 11:02 left in the first half. The Ducks were shooting just 18.2 percent at the time while, at the other end, USC was shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
Down by as much as 19 points in the first half, the Ducks made it an eight-point game at halftime, with USC leading 37-29. Loper had 10 points to lead the Ducks at halftime while Lexi Petersen had nine points and six rebounds.
Oregon was able to make it a six point game, 45-39, on an Alleyne layup with 15:12 left, but USC answered with a 19-5 run to make it a 64-44 advantage with 7:32 remaining to play.
Slow Start: The Ducks didn't score until the 15:09 mark of the first half on a three-pointer by Katelyn Loper. Oregon went 0-for-5 from the floor with three turnovers in that span.
Stat Sheet: Alleyne led the Ducks with 20 points and 15 rebounds while Loper added 16 points and Petersen chipped in 11 points. Alleyne led all players with 15 rebounds. Jordan Loera had a team-high three assists.
Pac-12 Record Double-Double Streak: Alleyne extended her Pac-12 record double-double streak to 21 games against the Women of Troy. The junior posted her 57th career double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
The previous Pac-12 record was 18 straight, which Alleyne shared with USC star Cheryl Miller. The streak is the third longest in NCAA women's basketball history. Former Oklahoma great Courtney Paris (2005-09) holds the record with 112 straight double-doubles, followed by Artemis Spanou's 33 consecutive for Robert Morris (2012-13).
Notable: Petersen tied her season-high with seven rebounds … USC outscored the Ducks 44-30 in the paint … The Ducks matched their season-high with 19 turnovers.
