12/14/14 | Women's Basketball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon women's basketball team won its third straight game, defeating Northern Arizona, 59-47, on Saturday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks improved to 5-3 with the win while NAU fell to 4-4.
How It Happened: After a back-and-forth start to the game, the Ducks used an 11-0 run over the final 6:14 of the first half to take a 30-18 lead at halftime. Alleyne had 13 of Oregon's points at the break along with six rebounds. The junior had a pair of emphatic blocks on defense as well. Lexi Petersen played just five minutes in the first half after picking up two early fouls.
After a 91 minute delay for a power outage at the arena, Northern Arizona cut Oregon's lead down to just one point, 40-39, with 10:43 left in the game but the Ducks responded.
After a three-pointer by Lexi Bando, the Ducks went on a 12-3 run to lead, 52-42, with 3:35 remaining. Bando finished with 16 points while Alleyne led the Ducks with 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Neither team shot well in the contest, with the Ducks going 19-of-56 from the field (34 percent) and NAU shooting 19-of-59 from the floor (32 percent).
Who Turned Out The Lights?: Power went out around town and on campus, including Matthew Knight Arena, during halftime. The game was delayed 91 minutes until the lights were turned back on.
1,000 Career Rebounds: After posting 15 rebounds against the Lumberjacks, Jillian Alleyne is now just one rebound shy of reaching 1,000 in her career (999). The junior will be just the third player in UO history to hit the mark, following in the footsteps of Bev Smith (1,362 rebounds) and Alison Lang (1,151). Alleyne passed Stefanie Kasperski (996) for third in UO history on Saturday.
The Human Double-Double: Alleyne posted her 49th career double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. The junior has a double-double in all eight games this season and 17 straight dating back to last year. She tied Cheryl Miller's Pac-12 record earlier last season with 18 straight double-doubles.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena on Thursday, Dec. 18, for a 6 p.m. game against Santa Clara.
