#19 Huskies Slip Past Ducks, 5-2
04/03/10 | Women's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon women's tennis team lost an incredibly tight match to No. 19 ranked Washington, 5-2, on Friday afternoon inside the Student Tennis Center. Washington fended off match points in both singles and doubles to help put away the dual.
Washington went up 3-0 in the dual after taking the doubles point and the first two singles match at No. 2 and No. 6. But Oregon would rally, with straight set wins by Pavlina Smatova at No. 3 and Patricia Skowronski at No. 4. With the dual score at 3-2 in Washington's favor, the outcomes at No. 1 and No. 5 would decide the victor.
Emmanuelle Cor battled back from a 6-1 first-set lost with a 6-3 second set victory. She was up 5-4 in the third with the serve but Washington's Joyce Ardies rallied to win three straight games to win 7-5 in the third. At No. 1, Julia Metzger dropped the opening set 6-4 to No. 17 ranked Venise Chan but was threatening to force a third set. She tied up the second set 6-6 with a break point but Chan won the tiebreaker 7-5 to win the match.
Oregon will battle Washington State tomorrow at Noon. If the weather stays poor it will be played indoors at the Student Tennis Center but will be outside at the 18th Street Tennis Courts if the weather improves.
