#53 Alabama Defeats #73 Oregon, 5-2

EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 53 ranked Oregon women's tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 53 ranked Alabama in a Pac-10/SEC clash. The Ducks fall to 5-4 on the season while the Crimson Tide improve to 4-3.
The Ducks started the day on the right foot, taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Pavlina Smatova and Trudie du Toit paired together at No. 1 to knock off the No. 51 ranked tandem of Alexa Guarachi and Courtney McLane by a score of 8-4. Julia Metzger and Sabine Fuchs won 8-6 at No. 2 to seal the doubles point.
In singles play, Oregon won the first match with du Toit cruising to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3. However, needing just two more singles wins to take the dual, Oregon was kept at bay by the Crimson Tide.
In a battle of top-100 ranked singles players, No. 83 McLane knocked off No. 96 Metzger 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 and the Crimson Tide took the next two matches at No. 5 and No. 6 as well.
The dual came down to No. 4 and No. 2, where the Ducks needed to win both to take the dual and Alabama needed one more win.
But the Crimson Tide's top ranked player, No. 68 ranked Guarachi rallied to win 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 to lock down the Crimson Tide win.
