UO 80, Stanford 100
01/23/10 | Women's Basketball
Oregon 80, Stanford 100
January 23, 2010
University of Oregon Head Coach Paul Westhead
On loss:
“Well I told our team to play the game to win. We were slightly under that goal. Our players played as hard and as well as they were capable of. “
“I think we are back on track. I'm happy they got back into it.”
“Obviously we played a very high caliber team, and they are deserving of the accolades. That being said, we are a team that can win, and we look forward to future events.”
On key stretch:
“I said to them you played so hard, you ran out and ran out of gas. It wasn't like their play went down. Our team is still in the learning process. “
On zone play:
“We contained them and got them out of man to man offense that cuts a lot of people off. We were pushing the perimeter, and in some ways that is ok, they're going to make shots. In general the zone helped us.”
On Sophomore Nia Jackson:
“Nia is a gamer. She likes to turn on the jets. She gets hard to the rim.”
On double figure scorers:
“We usually score enough points and it is not an issue for us. We have pretty good balanced scoring, but we could have used another double scorer today.”
Sophomore guard #32 Nia Jackson
whether or not it felt like a 20 point loss:
“No not at all. We fought hard, and sometimes you just come up short. We had a lot of energy and we rebounded tonight.”
“We kept fighting and I am pleased with our team. We are making good strides forward.”
“We know we can play, and we know if we come out with that intensity and energy, we can play with every team in the Pac-10.”
On running out of gas in the 4 minute pull away:
“We were not being as aggressive. In the 2nd half I could not get some layups to fall. I need to keep my intensity more. Taylor helped us out with 3's.”
On pressure to score:
“The coaches want me to attack and then teams will come off Taylor. It is pretty easy for me to drive past guards.”
On getting into a flow:
“We had a dead spot, and I think this is a new start. This is where we want to be at. We need to bring this level of intensity to every game in the Pac-10.”
