Junior is one of 20 named to point guard of the year watch list.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Oregon junior guard Katie Fiso is one of 20 players on the preseason watch list for the 2026-27 Nancy Lieberman Award, presented annually to the nation's top point guard by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
Â
Fiso is named to the watch list for the first time in her career and is one of seven athletes from the Big Ten named to the award's preseason watch list.
Â
Coming off a second-team all-Big Ten selection, Fiso led Oregon with 15.5 points and 6.2 assists per game, adding 3.5 rebounds a night and shooting 49.0 percent from the floor. The Seattle native logged a Big Ten-leading seven points-assists double-doubles, the most by a Duck since Sabrina Ionescu had 12 in 2019-20. Her 6.2 assists per game ranked as the fifth-most in a single season, while her 222 total assists marked the fourth-highest total in program history.
Â
Fiso led the Ducks to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and a 23-13 record in 2025-26. Over the summer, she was named to USA Basketball's U23 3x3 roster and helped Team USA win gold at the 2026 FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup in Wuhan, China.
Â
Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in each of the three rounds starting Friday, Oct. 30. In late February, the watch list of 20 players for the 2027 Nancy Liberman Award will be narrowed to 10, and then to five in March. In late March, the five finalists will be presented to Lieberman and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.Â
Â
The Nancy Lieberman Award winner will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's and Women's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (Shooting Guard), Cheryl Miller Award (Small Forward), Katrina McClain Award (Power Forward) and the Lisa Leslie Award (Center). Â
Â
Ionescu won the Lieberman Award three times (2018-20) in her decorated career with the Ducks, with Iowa's Caitlin Clark and UConn great Sue Bird as the only other players to accomplish that feat.
