Cal Keeps Winning Streak Alive Against Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – California brought its hot streak into Mac Court on Thursday night and kept it alive with a 72-62 victory over Oregon.
The Bears, now 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-10, are on a three-game winning streak, their longest of the season.
The Ducks (12-6, 3-3) are on the opposite end, having dropped three consecutive games for the first time this year.
Cal played a physical game that Oregon struggled to match. The Bears outrebounded the Ducks 53-31, including 24 on the offensive end that led to 19 second-chance points. Cal also out scored Oregon 42-30 in the paint, and the Bears' bench outdid the Ducks' reserves 20-10.
Cal senior guard Alexis Gray-Lawson scored a game-high 19 points, while fellow senior and backcourt mate Natasha Vital added 11.
The freshman tandem of DeNesha Stallworth and Layisha Clarendon combined for 24 points and 15 rebounds as Stallworth scored 13 with seven boards and Clarendon added 11 points with eight rebounds.
Freshman Eliza Pierre added a game-high five assists, while freshman Talia Caldwell came off the bench to grab a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Ducks were led by senior guard Taylor Lilley's 16 points, 11 of which she scored in the second half. The Newhall, Calif., native also added a team-leading six rebounds.
Senior Micaela Cocks added 12 points, while sophomore guard Nia Jackson chipped in 10.
The Ducks trailed by 10 at the break, but Cal opened the second half on a 16-6 run to take its largest lead of the game, 58-38, with 13:04 remaining. The Bears knocked down seven field goals in that stretch, and grabbed five offensive boards.
Oregon shot just39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the floor and just 45.4 percent (5-of-11) from the free-throw line.
Poor shooting in the first half plagued Oregon as the Ducks entered the locker room trailing 42-32 after shooting just 34.2 percent (13-of-38) from the floor in the first half.
Oregon led once in the opening moments, but Cal had the advantage the majority of the first half. A steal and breakaway layup for
Lilley had Oregon ahead briefly, 26-25 at the 9:07 mark, but Cal retook the lead quickly.
Over the final five minutes of the half, the Bears put together an 11-2 run that had the Ducks trailing by double-digits at the half.
Cal had 12 second-chance points off 10 offensive rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
Stallworth and Clarendon each had 11 points each to lead Cal at the break, while Cocks led the Ducks with eight.

Prior to the game senior guard Taylor Lilley was presented with a game ball for breaking the all-time Oregon three-point record back on Jan. 1 vs. Washington. Honorary captain Missy Croshaw, who held the three-point record for 16 years prior to Lilley eclipsing the mark, presented Lilley with the game ball. Lilley was also honored for becoming the 21st UO player to reach the 1,000-point plateau, an accomplishment that also took place in the Pac-10 opener against the Huskies…Lilley has now scored 1,108 career points, ranking 17th in all-time UO history…Lilley has knocked down 208 career three-pointers, tying for seventh all-time in the Pac-10…the Ducks have now lost seven straight to Cal and three consecutive in Eugene.

Oregon will welcome in No. 2 Stanford on Saturday at for an early 11 a.m. tip at Mac Court. Saturday's game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net.

FORMER DUCK GREATS RETURN TO MAC COURT
Conference women's basketball season played at McArthur Court. Each Pac-10 game this season will have a pre-game ceremony featuring at least one honorary captain. In addition, the first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a 3x7 commemorative ticket highlighting the accomplishments of the honorary captain(s) for that contest. Debbie Sporcich will be Oregon's honorary captain for the Ducks' televised match up with Stanford on Saturday.
