McFadden?s 800 Win, PR in Long Jump Leads to Season Best in Heptathlon

AZUSA, Calif. ? Kalindra McFadden's win in the 800 meters and personal best in the long jump helped the junior score a season-best 5,420 points in the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon Thursday on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
McFadden jumped 18-7.5, eclipsing the 18-4.25 she recorded as a freshman.
The Bozeman, Mont., native upped her NCAA provisional qualifying mark by more than 100 points and was just eight points shy of her career high of 5,428 set two seasons ago at Mt. SAC.
McFadden ran the fastest 800 in the field, a season-best 2:15.08, to move up to fifth place in the final standings. She was second among collegians to Hawaii's Anett Wichmann, who finished fourth with 5521 points.
Her long jump ranked tied for seventh overall, while her javelin throw of 121-5 was eighth.
Great Britain's Julie Hollman won the heptathlon with 5,766 points.
Also Thursday, sophomore Erin Funkhouser rallied from 22nd place to climb all the way to sixth in the California Invitational division of the heptathlon. Her 4,696 total was a PR by 246 points.
Funkhouser, from Grass Valley, Ore., was second in the 800 by .01 seconds in a time of 2:17.70. She was also ninth in the javelin with a throw of 120-3.
McFadden and Funkhouser will join the rest of the women's team for the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Friday.
