Powaska Leads Ducks to Another Victory

Eugene, Ore., The Ducks came away with a big victory at home after defeating Sacamento State 4-3 Sunday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center.
Senior Anna Powaska clinched the win for the Ducks after three heated sets against Lyssenko in the No. 3 spot. Powaska won the first set 6-2 but couldn't close it out in the second when Lyssenko came back and won 7-5, but it was Powaska's determination that sealed the 5-2 victory in the third.
It was also Claudia Hirt who continuted to show her strength on the court coming through with a big win in the No. 6 spot. Hirt won the first set 7-6 then struggled in the second losing 6-0 but came back with a crucial victory winning the third set 6-2 making the team score tied at 3-3.
In the No. 5 spot Stephanie Macfarland was the first to finish but came up short against Jarlkaganovel losing her match 4-6, 0-6. Next to finish was Carmen Seremeta who won her match by default 6-2, 3-0 .
Ana Cecilia was back on the courts today for Ducks. Playing in the No. 4 spot she was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Shifris. Celine Rolly gave the Ducks another solid point for the day after she was victorious in her match beating Zheltova 6-4, 7-6.
Sacramento State took the lead early and came away with the doubes point taking wins in the No.1 and No. 3 spots.
Doubles team Carmen Seremeta and Claudia Hirt finished first and won their fourth consecutive match defeating Schifris and Jarlkaganovel in the No. 2 spot 8-0.
In the No. 3 spot Ana Cecilia Olivos and Stephanie Macfarlane battled it out in a close one but were edged 9-7 by Tsan and Lyssenko.
An hour and forty-five minute doubles match between Celine Rolly and Anna Powaska and Zheltova and Valenzuela clinched the doubles point for the Hornets in a 9-7 victory in the No. 1 spot.
The women have another set of dual matches at home next wekend against the Arizona schools when they begin their conference play.
