
Women's Tennis Beats Purdue

EUGENE, Ore., -- The Ducks came out of Sunday's match against the Purdue Boilermakers with a 4-3 win at the Student Tennis Center. The women's tennis team is now 5-2 and ready for their first road trip of the season.
Doubles play started off fast with the Oregon freshman duo of Celine Rolly and Stephanie Macfarlane jumping ahead 6-1 early in the No. 1 spot. However,Cigdem Duru and Joanna Craven came back to defeat the Ducks 9-7. In the No. 2 spot, Brooke Beier and Alejandra Boeker defeated Anna Powaska and Siobhan Cavan 8-6. Oregon's Carmen Sermeta and Mimi Songsermsawas won 8-3 against Anna Dzeva and Whitney Reys in the No. 3 spot. The Boilermakers took the early lead 1-0 after doubles.
The Ducks needed to win four out of the six matches to win the team score and they did exactly that. Seremeta, Olivos, Macfarlane, and Cavan all won their matches to lead the Ducks to victory. Stephanie Macfarlane continued her strong play winning 6-1, 7-5. Ana Cecila Olivos also won convincingly, 6-2, 7-5. Seremeta showed that she wouldn't give up easily after losing the first set 6-0, rebounding to win the next two 6-4, 7-5.
It was a tough day for Anna Powaska and Celine Rolly, who lost in both doubles and singles. Rolly lost at her No. 1 singles spot to Brooke Beier 6-7, 6-3, 1-6. Powaska also went the distance in her match against Cigdem Duru, but came up short losing 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
The Ducks now start a four game road trip. They will travel to the Midwest next weekend for their matches against Michigan on Friday, February 22 at 1 p.m., and at Ohio State on Sunday, February 24 at 11 a.m.
