EUGENE, Ore.
? After another 3-0 (30-11, 30-21, 30-13) victory over Rutgers on Saturday
night, the Oregon volleyball team finds itself just one victory shy of tying
the program's all-time winning streak.
The Ducks recorded their ninth consecutive victory after
dispatching the Scarlet Knights for the second straight evening at McArthur
Court.
Oregon is 9-0
in 2007, and during those nine matches has yet to drop a game in 27 played ? a
new record for the volleyball program.
The Ducks will have an opportunity to reach their 10th
straight victory when they host Portland
on Tuesday evening at Mac Court.
A 10-match winning streak has been an accomplishment only twice before for Oregon,
during the 2006 and 1984 seasons.
In Saturday's victory over the Scarlet Knights (1-7), head
coach Jim Moore put 13 of his players into the match, including a game apiece
to his libero-trio of Katie Swoboda, Amanda Westrick and Coco Yokoyama.
Junior Gorana Marcic, who has recorded double figures in
kills in all nine matches this year, had a match-high 16 against Rutgers,
hitting .520 on the night.
Sophomore Heather Meyers added 10 kills (.533) with two
service aces and two digs.
Similar to last night, Oregon
totaled 11 services aces on the night, and as a team hit a season-high .495.
Junior Kristen Forristall added nine kills, matching her
career high set earlier this year against Kansas,
while also leading the team with five total blocks. Sophomore Neticia Enesi
added eight kills.
Rutgers was held to a .039 hitting
percentage, marking the fifth time this season Oregon
has held an opponent under a .100 attacking percentage.
Amanda Meyer led the Scarlet Knights with eight kills.
After Tuesday's 7 p.m.
match with Portland at The Pit, Oregon
will play arguably its toughest competition of the year at the Big 10/Pac-10
challenge hosted by Ohio State
in Columbus. The Buckeyes were
ranked 20th in the last CSTV/AVCA Coaches' poll, while Purdue ? also
playing in the tournament ? was ranked 26th.
QUICK QUACKS: Head coach Jim Moore is 30-1 in non-conference
action in his three seasons at Oregon...
the Portland match will be the
final contest at Mac Court
for Oregon before the team begins
play in the Pacific-10 Conference, hosting Washington
on Fri., Sept. 21...last year Oregon welcomed 2,672 to Mac Court in the heated
battle with Huskies...it was the second largest volleyball crowd at The Pit in
the program's history.
