
Streak Reaches 10 After Sweep of Pilots

One more consecutive victory for the Ducks would set a new
record for the program, and that opportunity will come this weekend at the Big
Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in
“This weekend is undoubtedly going to be a big test for us, but I am
confident our players are prepared,”
The Ducks also have not dropped a single game this season
with 30 played, another program record.
Portland now drops to 6-4 on the year.
Sophomore Sonja Newcombe added eight kills, seven digs and two blocks, while sophomore setter Nevena Djordjevic reached a new season high with a match-best 31 assists.
Junior Katie Swoboda had a match-high 10 digs, and as a team,
Senior Karen Waddington, junior Kristen Forristall and sophomore Neticia Enesi each finished the match with five kills apiece. Forristall led the team with a .625 attacking percentage, and also added three blocks. Coincidentally, Enesi and Waddington were the two other Ducks with three blocks apiece as well.
QUICK QUACKS: Head coach Jim Moore is 31-1 in non-conference
action in his three seasons at Oregon...the Ducks now hold a 24-5 advantage in
the series with Portland and have won the last three meetings...in 2006, Oregon
also opened the season 10-0 in its non-conference schedule...the contest against
Portland was the last home match for Oregon until the Ducks open up Pac-10 play
against Washington at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21...last year the rivalry match
drew 2,672 fans to Mac Court on Nov. 3, the second largest crowd in Oregon
volleyball history...junior Gorana Maricic finished the match with six kills, ending her streak of matches with double-digit numbers at nine.
