EUGENE -- Sophomore Ana Cecilia Olivos showed that she will be a force at the top of the lineup for years to come, but the No. 36 Ducks could not rally for a victory against the Huskies as they fell 5-2 Saturday afternoon in the teams' final dual match of the year.
Olivos, playing at the No. 2 position, easily defeated Aleksandra Malovic in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
On senior day, the Ducks' two veteran players played two intense matches, but ultimately neither could get a victory. Monica Hoz de Vila was the last Duck off the court as she fell in an closely contested marathon match against Joyce Ardies. 6-7(1), 7-6(5), 15-13 in the longest home super tiebreak of the year for the Ducks. Hoz de Vila had three match points at 9-6, but was unable to convert.
Oregon's other senior, Dominika Dieskova, battled back in the second set after a rough first but was unable to break through in the tiebreak as she fell 6-3, 7-6(0) to Mathilde Cor at the top position.
Sophomore Anna Powaska, part of the young core that will lead the Ducks for the next couple of year, was the only other Duck besides Olivos to get a victory as she bested Allison Rainey, 6-0, 6-2.
Dieskova did win her doubles match with partner Ana Cecilia Olivos, as they were the only Duck pair to pick up a victory, crusing 8-1.
Oregon next heads to the Pac-10 tournament in Ojai, Calif., which begins April 26.
