BERKELEY, Calif. -- Zsuzsanna Fodor defeated Oregon's Dominika Dieskova with ease and the No. 6 ranked California Golden Bears swept the Ducks, 7-0, in the Pac-10 conference opener, played Friday evening.
The loss marked the first in five matches for the Ducks, who drop to 8-3 on the year. California moves to 10-3.
Dieskova was the only Duck to pick up a victory in the past two meetings between the two teams, but the 25th ranked Fodor made quick work of the Bratislava, Slovakia native, 6-0, 6-1 at the top position.
California currently has three players, or half of their starting lineup, ranked.
Carmen Seremeta was the only Duck to take three games in a single set and she did it against the No. 4 ranked Susie Babos at the No. 2 position, ass she fell 6-2, 6-3.
Ana Cecilia Olivos 6-3, 4-0 (ret.). Olivos was forced to default to No. 16 Nina Henkel at the No. 3 position due to shoulder pain.
In the highly anticipated doubles matchup of the No. 16th ranked pair of Dieskova and Olivos and the No. 3 ranked pair of Babos and Fodor of California, the Golden Bear pair was victorious, 8-5. California also swept the doubles point as the other two Duck pairs both lost 8-3.
The Ducks weekend doesn't get any easier, as they take on the top-ranked team in the Pac-10 and three-time defending national champion Stanford on Saturday at Noon.
