03/10/07 | Women's Tennis
STANFORD, Calif. – For the second consecutive day, the Oregon women faced a top ten opponent, and for the second consecutive day, they were beaten badly. Stanford swept the doubles point, and did not lose a set in singles play, en route to a 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center.
Stanford began the day by coasting to victories in all three doubles matches. Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos, facing the No. 41 ranked duo of Lindsay Burdette and Anne Yelsey, put up the toughest fight before being downed 8-5.
Singles play was no different. The three Cardinal players ranked in the top 15 nationally cruised to easy victories. No. 8 Celia Durkin defeated Carmen Seremata 6-1, 6-1, while No. 7 Lindsay Burdette beat Anna Powaska 6-3, 6-2. Dominika Dieskova fell to No. 14 Theresa Logar, 6-4, 7-5.
In the closest singles match of the day, Ana Cecilia Olivos was edged by No. 29 Whitney Deason 6-1, 7-6 (7-4)
Oregon drops to 8-4 on the year, and 1-2 in Pac-10 play, while Stanford improves its overall record to 10-1.
The Ducks look to regroup in Eugene for their next matches, with two non-conference matches next Friday, March 16, at the Student Tennis Center.
