Ducks Double their Pleasure, Defeat Nevada and Eastern Washington

EUGENE -- Leading 3-1 in the match overall and needing just one singles match win out of three to clinch the dual, the Ducks turned to one of their seniors to clinch the match and she responded as the No 20 Ducks picked up the 5-2 win over No. 56 Nevada Friday night at the Student Tennis Center.
It was Monica Hoz de Vila who would respond first, as she won a tight match over Nevada's Laetitia Tan at the No. 4 position, 7-6 (3), 7-5.
Dieskova was locked in a tight battle with Maria Mizyuk at the number one spot, having won the first set 7-5, the senior was forced to a super-tiebreak after Mizyuk fought off several match points in the second set. Mizyuk would ultimately get the win in the closest match of the night as she picked up the 10-6 win in the tiebreak.
In the only full three set match of the night, Anna Powaska battled wrist pain and a tough second set to take her match 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Sophomore Claudia Hirt was the first Duck off the court as she dispatched Fiorella Velez easily, 6-2, 6-0 and she was quickly followed by Ana Cecilia Olivos, who defeated Ly-Huong Dinh by the same score.
The Ducks won the doubles point 2-1, as Dieskova and Olivos defeated Mizyuk and Dinh, 8-5, and Seremeta and Hirt also got the 8-5 victory over Bailly and Tan.

In the morning session, a dual match versus Eastern Washington, the Ducks rolled to a relatively easy 6-1 victory.
Seremeta was first off the court as she shutout Iliana Petrova at the No. 2 position, 6-0, 6-0 and Powaska also won her match at No. 3 comfortably 6-0, 6-1.
At the No. 1 position, Dieskova got the 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kasey Knox.
Tina Snodgrass made her first start of the year for the Ducks and was immediately thrust into the three set match. The walk-on from Corvallis, Ore. was the only Duck to lose on the afternoon as she was bested by Sayaka Yoshimoto, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2.
The Ducks head back into Pac-10 play next weekend as they travel north to face Washington and Washington State.
