Ducks Win First Against Huskies, 5-2

SEATTLE -- The 22nd-ranked Ducks (11-5) swept the doubles point and held off a singles charge from the Huskies (2-14) to win a non-conference dual meet held Tuesday afternoon at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
The Ducks opened the match with the doubles sweep thanks to easy wins at the bottom two positions which clinched the point, before the pair of Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos finished off Joyce Ardies and Mathilde Cor at the top position, 7-6 (5) to complete the doubles rout.
The Ducks won the first singles match as Claudia Hirt walked to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lauren Summers to make the match 2-0 in favor of the visiting Ducks.
Dieskova would fall to Cor at the top spot next as the Husky junior ran her match winning streak to four in a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Oregon senior.
The other Duck senior would attempt to get the team back on track with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position over Melinda Wong, before the Huskies got a 6-3, 6-3 victory from Tara Simpson over Carmen Seremeta.
Olivos was there to keep the Husky charge at bay as she won ten straight games after trailing 3-5 in the first set to overcome Ardies at the No. 2 spot, 7-5, 6-0.
Anna Powaska was the last Duck off the court, although she easily defeated Allison Rainey, 6-3, 6-3.
Oregon will face Washington again on Sunday, April 22nd in a conference-counting match.
The Ducks return home this weekend to face UCLA on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and USC on Saturday at Noon.
