02/24/07 | Women's Tennis
Eugene--The Oregon women's tennis team comfortably came out on top Saturday afternoon defeating Washington State 6-1 at the Oregon Student Tennis Center.
The afternoon began with a clean sweep in doubles for Oregon giving them the boost they needed going into singles.
Dominikia Dieskova stole a close one and defeated Ekaterina Burduli in a tiebreaker game 7-4. Olivos , Powaska, Hoz de Villa and Hirt also came away with wins to help the Ducks put away the Cougars.
Marjolein van de Ven was able to give the Cougars their only win of the day when she defeated Carmen Seremeta 7-6, 6-4.
“I felt pretty good about today's match and sweeping doubles really gave us confidence going into singles. I think everything was just clicking really well today.” Oregon's Head Coach Paul Reber explains. Washington State is a pretty scrappy team so we just played hard and did what we could to come away with the win.”
The Ducks now look ahead to facing Boise State next Saturday in Eugene.
