
Ducks Lose Heartbreaker to Fresno State, 4-3

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Fresno State Bulldogs won the final three matches of the dual meet to rally for a 4-3 victory over the Ducks Saturday afternoon at a raucous Student Tennis Center.
The Ducks built a 3-1 lead early over the Bulldogs as Markus Schiller rolled over Serg Modoc 6-0, 6-3 and Gustavo Loza cruised to a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Sam Tadevosian. Arron Spencer battled back in the second set, but lost his match against Rudy Siwy 1-6, 4-6.
The remaining three matches would all go to deciding three sets and all of them would be hotly contested. Mike Myrhead would be the first to fall, losing a tight match which would see a tiebreakers in the second set and only two breaks. Myrhead would eventually lose the battle 7-6 (7-0), 5-7, 6-4.
The momentum shifted to Fresno State as a riveting and passionate match between Fernando Freitas and Jordi Ballester would rile up the crowd and athletes. Freitas would eventually succumb 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (3-7) tying the dual meet match 3-3 with only the top position match remaining undecided.
Oregon's Thomas Bieri battled No. 66 ranked Jakub Cech to a third set tiebreak, but would ultimately be bested 3-6, 6-2, 6-7 (0-7).
The Ducks began the match easily enough, capturing the doubles point 2-1 as the pair of Aaron Spencer and Markus Schiller dispatched Rudy Siwy and Serg Modoc, 8-4 and Myrhed and Loza defeated Charles Irie and Sam Gibbs, 8-5. The lone loss in doubles for the Ducks came as the Bulldogs' pair of Jakub Cech and Sam Tadevosian outlasted Thomas Bieri and Fernando Freitas, 8-6.
The Ducks return to action March 7th, hosting the Memphis Tigers.
