
Cajuns Bounce Ducks

LAFAYETTE, La. ? The Oregon men's tennis team lost their first match of the season falling 7-0 to the No. 33 Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns, Saturday.
“This was a good chance for us to play a team of this caliber,” head coach Kevin Kowalik said. “We know which direction we need to go in to get better.”
The Ducks were close in two of the doubles matches as Markus Schiller and Arron Spencer lost a tight, 8-6 match to Evghenii Corduneanu and Amanjot Singh. Mike Myrhed and Gustavo Loza fell, 8-5 to Matthieu Truong and Dusan Tabak.
In the other doubles match Thomas Bieri and Fernando Freitas lost, 8-2 to Robin Ley and Shaun Ellison.
In singles play Singh defeated Schiller, 6-4, 6-2. Thomas Bieri fell in straight sets to Corduneanu, 6-1, 7-5.
Spencer was also a victim of a straight sets loss as he fell, 6-2, 6-4 to Ley. At the No. 4 spot Mike Myrhed was able to push his match to a third set as he lost the first set 6-4 before rebounding to take the second set 6-3. In the third set tiebreaker Myrhed fell 10-8.
The bottom two positions were just as tough for the Ducks as, Ellison defeated Loza, 6-4, 6-2. At the No. 6 spot Truong defeated Vlad Pino, 6-3, 7-5.
The Ducks return to action next Saturday when they face Santa Barbara beginning at 1 p.m, in Santa Barbara.
