No. 26 ranked Dominika Dieskova swept Kelly Leathers 6-0, 6-0 and the Ducks would follow her lead, winning the dual meet match held Friday Night at the Student Tennis Center, 6-1.
At the number two position, freshman Ana Cecilia Olivos would also come extremely close to the sweep in her match against Stephanie Galainena, leading the second set 5-0 before Galainena would break through to win her lone game, as Olivos would take the match 6-0, 6-1.
The closest match of the night would come at the six position, as freshman Claudia Hirt came back from 5-3 down in the second set to force a tiebreak, which she would win 7-3. "Claudia played big tonight, coming back from down 5-3 to win that match," coach Nils Schyllander said. "She played more like a junior or senior than a freshman."
Oregon's other match wins would come from Carmen Seremeta in the four position and Anna Leksinska in the five position. Seremeta won convincingly over Kimberly Daniel 6-1, 6-4 and Leksinska cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in her match.
The Ducks lone loss of the dual meet would come at the three position in a super tiebreak, as Anna Powaska would fall 6-4, 3-6, (10-7) to Samantha Georgino.
Oregon opened up the match taking the first 16 games combined as a team, before Georgino would finally break through for the Broncos, taking a game from Powaska.
"It's extremely important for us to get out ot a quick start," Coach Schyllander said. "That gives us confidence throughout all of our matches."
Oregon also took the doubles point in convincing fashion. The pair of Leksinska and Hirt polished off their match first, 8-2. Dieskova and Olivos dispatched their opponents 8-1 after a first game that was the longest of the match, going to deuce several times. The Ducks would complete the sweep of the doubles matches as Seremeta and Powaska would hold off a Santa Clara rally and win their match 8-5.
The Ducks continue their homestand Sunday against the Boise State Broncos at 11 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
