No.24 Women's Tennis Not To Be Denied Against San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The No. 24 University of Oregon women's tennis team got off of the losing snide Sunday, defeating San Diego, 5-2. The Ducks entered the match having lost five in a row ? four to top-25 opponents ? but rebounded strong, sweeping the doubles point and winning four of six singles matches against the Toreros.
"We bounced back well after a disappointing loss Friday," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "This team was not going to be beaten today. Tomorrow's match against Pepperdine will be very important as we make the push for a good postseason seed."
For the second consecutive match, Oregon won all three doubles matches. No. 45 Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova improved to 21-8 overall and 16-5 in dual play with a win at No. 1. Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu also improved to 16-5 in duals, with a win at No. 3. Oregon is 42-21 in doubles dual play as a team this season.
The hottest player for the Ducks continues to be Mendiburu, as she won her career-best and team-high 21st match Sunday, crushing USD's Tara Livesay, 6-1, 6-1. The Menton, France native has won six of her last eight dual matches, while checking in at No. 81 in the recent ITA national rankings.
No. 67 Dieskova defeated USD's Lauren Kazarian at No. 2, improving to 19-12 overall ? one win shy of tying a career-high.
Jamie Marshall and Bak rounded out the Ducks' victories with wins at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.
The Ducks continue action tomorrow (Mon.) when they take on Pepperdine in Malibu at 1:30 p.m. Oregon then closes out the regular season in Pullman, Wash., when it takes on Washington State, Sunday, at noon.
