STANFORD, Calif. ? The University of Oregon women's tennis team lost to defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Stanford, 6-1, Saturday. The Cardinal improve to 14-0 ? six by way of shutout ? while the Ducks drop to 13-4, 2-3. Oregon's Davina Mendiburu came away with the teams' lone point with an upset win over Stanford's No. 38-ranked Theresa Logar, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles, Stanford swept all three positions. No. 11-ranked Alice Barnes and Erin Brudette defeated UO's No. 43-ranked Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova, 8-5.
In singles, Stanford got out to a quick start with straight set victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Panova fell to defending national champ and No. 14-ranked Amber Liu, 6-4. 6-2, at No. 1, while Dieskova lost in straight sets to No. 16 Burdette.
Mendiburu picked up her career-tying 18th win of the season, defeating Logar at the No. 3 position in straight sets. Mendiburu is now 11-5 in dual play.
The Ducks have faced four consecutive top-25 team, going 2-2 in that span. Oregon will square off against No. 5 USC (Fri., 1:30 p.m.) and No. 11 UCLA (Sat., noon) at the Student Tennis Center next weekend.
