Women's Tennis Wins 11th Match, Defeats Princeton, 4-3

EUGENE ? The University of Oregon women's tennis team improved to 11-2 after fending off a pesky Princeton squad, 4-3, Sunday. Four of the six singles matches reached a third set, with Oregon prevailing in two of them, including senior Ester Bak's clinching win at the No. 6 position. Dating back to last season, the Ducks have won 22 of its last 23 regular season dual matches against non-conference opponents.
"We came away with an important win today," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "We have had a lot of players fighting illness but the team hung in there. Ester (Bak) came away with a big win and our doubles play continues to be a strength."
In doubles, Oregon continued its solid play, winning the doubles point for the 13th time in 14 matches. Seniors Davina Meniburu and Bak improved to 12-1 in dual play with a win at the No. 3 position. Senior Daria Panova and sophomore Dominika Dieskova upped their dual mark to 11-2 with an easy 8-0 victory at No. 1.
Panova and No. 73 Dieskova both won their team-leading tenth dual of the season, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions respectively. Panova slipped in the first set, but rebounded with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Princeton's Jessica Siebel. Dieskova won her match in a timely manner, cruising past Darcy Robertson, 6-1, 6-2.
Bak clinched the match for the Ducks with a come-from-behind victory at No. 6, defeating Princeton's Laura Trimble, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Despite the match being clinched, Princeton finished strong, posting three-set victories at the No. 3 and No. 5 positions.
The Ducks continue non-conference play next weekend when they play host to No. 24 BYU, Saturday at noon.
