Softball Streak Ends With Loss To No. 9 Washington

HONOLULU, Hawaii ? The 13th-ranked University of Oregon softball team suffered its first defeat of the season, falling 6-0 to No. 9 Washington at the Hawaii Paradise Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Oregon finishes its season-opening tournament 3-1while the Huskies improved to 3-0.
The Huskies capitalized on three Oregon errors and held the Ducks to three hits. Oregon junior Amy Harris (1-1) took the loss for the Ducks while senior Ashley Boek improved to 2-0 with the win.
"Obviously we didn't want to finish the tournament this way," Oregon head coach Kathy Arendsen said. "We have been playing very well as a team and need to focus on continuing to improve each time we take the field."
Washington loaded the bases in the third inning and took a 1-0 lead after Aimee Minor was hit by a pitch, which allowed Dominique Lastrapes to score. The Huskies scored another unearned run in the fourth inning and All-American catcher Kristen Rivera made it 5-0 with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Senior Erin Goodell, sophomore Kristi Leiter and freshman Lovena Chaput had a hit apiece to lead the Duck offense.
Oregon continues tournament action next weekend at the UNLV Rebel Classic. The Ducks' first game is Friday at 7:30 p.m. vs. No. 17 Baylor.
