#25 Women's Tennis Opens Pac-10 Schedule With a Win Over Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. ? The No. 25 Ducks opened the Pac-10 season on a good note, defeating Arizona, 4-3, and improving to 9-1 overall. Oregon captured the doubles point, marking the tenth time this season the Ducks have headed into the singles portion up 1-0. The win also marked the third in a row against the Wildcats and equals last season's start through ten matches.
"I was really proud that we performed as well as we did," Oregon head coach Nils Schyllander said. "It was our first competition outside since October so we had to do adapt to the surroundings. This team keeps finding ways to win."
In doubles, it was the No. 2 and No. 3 squads that came through for the Ducks. Seniors Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu improved to 10-0 in dual play with a 8-6 victory over Arizona's Stephanie Balzert and Kelly Perry. Anna Leksinska and Jamie Marshall clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 win at the No. 2 position. Oregon is now 25-5 in dual doubles play on the season.
Entering the match, Oregon's only losing record in singles play was at the No. 5 position (4-5), but Leksinska even that mark and clinched the match for the Duck with a, 6-4, 7-5, win over UA's Kasia Jakowlew. Leksinska is now 10-8 on the season.
Panova improved to 8-1 in dual play with a win at the No. 1 position, while Bak rounded out the Ducks' victories with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Camelia Todorova at No. 6.
The Ducks continue Pac-10 play tomorrow (Sat.) when they make the quick trip to Tempe to take on Arizona State at 11 a.m.
