POCATELLO, Idaho ? The University of Oregon women's basketball team won its seventh straight game, taking apart host Idaho State in convincing fashion, 89-69, Thursday before a crowd of 866 at Reed Gym.
The Ducks (8-1) established an inside presence and then proceeded to beat the Bengals (4-5) at their own game, draining a season-high 11 3-pointers. UO shot 48.6 percent (36-of-74), including 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from beyond the arc.
Junior center Carolyn Ganes led four Ducks in double figures with a career-high 26 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guards Brandi Davis and Chelsea Wagner scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, and sophomore center Gabrielle Richards also had a dozen.
“They were a bit undersized and we wanted to make sure to take the ball inside and try to bury them,” Ganes said. “For me, I tried to focus on rebounding when I got in the game and that helped get my offensive game going.”
“We were just trying to play solid defense,” Ganes said of her team's game plan. “We knew they were good shooters coming in.”
The Ducks' offense got off to a slow start but recovered in time to build a 43-33 halftime lead.
