EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Gabrielle Richards had 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots as Oregon held off Arkansas for a 70-59 win Friday.
Eleanor Haring added 14 for the Ducks (4-1), and Kedzie Gunderson tied her career-high with 13 points. "Tonight was probably our best team performance," Richards said. "Everyone was just intense tonight, it was awesome." Leading 33-30 at the break, Oregon started the second half with an 18-4 run to take a 51-34 advantage with 10:51 to play. The Ducks made 6-of-8 field goal attempts during that stretch, while Arkansas, which shot just 30 percent in the first half, hit only two of its first 13 attempts in the second half. The Razorbacks, however, started to make their shots. Dominique Washington scored six points in a 9-2 run that cut the Ducks lead to 57-54 with 3:41 to play. But then Richards and Gunderson scored inside, Chelsea Wagner hit a 3-pointer, and the Ducks went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line to seal the win. "It was a very good win, they came out and shot the ball well from the zone," head coach Bev Smith said. "I think our team did a real good job in terms of adjustments." The Razorbacks (2-1) started the game hot from long range, getting 3-pointers from Rochelle Vaughn, Sheree Thompson and Kristin Peoples to take a 9-2 lead 3:30 into the game. Vaughn's second 3-pointer put Arkansas up 18-8. But Oregon's Kaela Chapdelaine later ignited a 17-4 run with a three-point play that eventually put the Ducks up 29-25. "Oregon is the best team we have played this year," said Arkansas coach Susie Gardner. "I knew this was going to be a test for us." Peoples led the Razorbacks with 16 points; Washington had 14. The Ducks overcame 22 turnovers by outshooting the Razorbacks 44 percent to 31 percent and outrebounding them 50-30.
