Tewalt Adds Top-10 UO Time at Stanford
05/01/26 | Track and Field
The Ducks combined for four lifetime bests Friday evening.
EUGENE, Ore. – For the second time this season, Luke Tewalt added his name to the Oregon track and field top 10 with Friday's performance in the 5,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Tewalt ran 13:19.82 to become the No. 7 performer in program history. Collectively, the Ducks posted four lifetime bests across the two invitational sections of the 5,000 at Stanford.
Â
Tewalt finished third among collegians in Friday's race, and 10th overall. The Oregon newcomer knocked more than eight seconds off his previous best—13:28.18—from last season. Last month also at Stanford, Tewalt ran 28:00.52 over 10,000 meters to move to sixth on the Ducks' all-time list in the event.
Â
Evan Burke finished Friday's race in 13:28.84 with Evan Bishop posting a time of 13:37.81, personal bests for both. The time for Burke is a 10-second PR dating back to his 2022 season at Stanford. Connor Burns (13:42.78) was making his outdoor debut in an Oregon kit.
Â
Dalia Frias lowered her lifetime best in the 5,000 meters by eight seconds Friday evening, crossing the line in 15:48.32 for a top-10 finish at Stanford. She came into the Payton Jordan weekend with a prior best of 15:56.33 from nearly two years ago at the 2024 Oregon Twilight. Based on times entering the meet, Frias also moves into the top 10 of the Big Ten this season.
Â
Notable: Taylor Wiseman (49.04m/160-10) was just two centimeters off her season's best and finished second in the discus at the OSU High Performance … Wiseman will compete in the shot put Saturday … freshman Juan Gonzalez made his UO debut in section two of the 5,000 meters in Stanford; crossed the line in 13:47.23 in seventh place.
Â
The 2026 World Relays begin Saturday in Botswana featuring a trio of former UO standouts. Kyree King and Jadyn Mays will run 4x100 legs for Team USA and Ella Clayton is in the 4x400 relay pool for Canada. Coverage begins Saturday at 5 a.m. PT on Peacock.
Â
Up Next: The Ducks' sprints, jumps and throws groups take on Saturday's Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz., with field events starting at 11 a.m. followed by running events at 3 p.m. Action in Corvallis carries on highlighted by UO entries—Elliott Cook, Ben Greene, Will Heslam—in the invitational 800 scheduled for 2:15 p.m.
Â
The Ducks return to Hayward Field next Friday, May 8, for the Oregon Twilight. Along with a Senior Day ceremony, the meet is also set to feature the Kids Half-Lapper and Middle School Mile presented by the TrackTownUSA Kids Club, the OTC Masters' Mile and the Warsaw Costume Relay for UO students.
