PORTLAND, Ore. — The Oregon men's golf team completed the first round of the Big Ten Championships on Friday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.Â
The Ducks posted a 10-over 290 and sit ninth in the 18-team field. Holes 4 and 14 were changed from par 5s to par 4s by the head rules official before play began. No. 12 Illinois leads at 1-under par, with UCLA and Washington tied for second at 1 over.Â
Seeking its first conference title since 2017, Oregon will look to climb the leaderboard in Saturday's second round, which begins at 9:30 a.m. PT. The Ducks have recorded top-five finishes in six consecutive conference tournaments and placed fourth last season in their first appearance at the Big Ten Championships.Â
How it Happened: Oregon made the turn at 10 over after adding nine strokes from holes 4–7, including bogeys by all four counting scorers on hole 7. The Ducks found a rhythm on the back nine, nearly doubling their birdie total while playing the final nine at even par to steady the opening round.Â
Senior Casper Nerpin and freshman Sebastian Desoisa led Oregon, each carding a 2-over 72 to sit tied for 26th. They were followed by Jeffrey Kwak (+3) and Aiden Krafft (+3) to complete the Ducks' counting scores.Â
Desoisa was 3-over at the turn before recording three birdies to play the back nine at 1 under. Krafft and Kwak each shot even par on the back nine, with one birdie and one bogey apiece; both bogeys came on hole 12.Â
Nerpin is tied for 26th after the opening round as the senior transfer looks to record his best finish of the spring after not placing in the top 20 since the fall.Â
