EUGENE, Ore. — Oregon claimed the doubles point but couldn't carry the momentum into singles play as No. 20 USC defeated the Ducks 4-1 on Sunday.
Prior to the match, seniors Vlad Breazu, Pierre Mouesca and Lachlan Robertson were honored in their final home match for the Ducks. Oregon student manager Alec Beechem was also honored for his two years of service to the team. Teammates and family members gathered for photos after a brief recognition was announced for each senior.
In the match, Oregon opened strong by taking two of three doubles matches. Vlad Breazu and Declan Galligan earned a 6-2 win for the Ducks, and Cameron Burton and Sam Olszakowski added another 6-2 victory to secure the early 1-0 lead.
In singles, however, USC responded with four consecutive wins. Connor Church defeated Declan Galligan to even the score, followed by a win from Andrin Casanova. Robertson and Breazu were then defeated to secure the four points needed to clinch the match for the No. 20 ranked Trojans. Pierre Mouesca and Cameron Burton's matches went unfinished.
The Ducks now wait for their seeding in the Big Ten Tournament, taking place next week in Ojai, California.Â
